Staying fit and healthy has become must for every person’s list these days. It is pleasing to note how many men and women have become more conscious regarding their overall physical fitness as well as faithfully maintaining a proper diet and religiously exercising to keep healthy. Below are ten tips to always staying fit and healthy:
- Everything starts with maintaining a well balanced diet. You should know what the right weight is for your height and age. Consult a nutritionist or your family doctor for advice on what foods you should avoid and what you should load up on as well as advice on what kind of exercises you should do to stay fit.
- Consume eight to ten glasses of water every day. While this is so cliché, it doesn’t make it any less true. Drinking lots of water helps you maintain a clean body system as well as flushing out unwanted toxins from your system.
- Quit any unhealthy habits. You know that cigarettes are jokingly called coffin nails right? Or how about cancer sticks? And the same thing for alcoholic drinks. Get them away from you as fast as you can and you will live longer and healthier.
- Vitamin supplements help you maintain a certain amount of vitamins in your system and it helps your body replace the nutrients and vitamins you lose during your work outs.
- Make exercise a fitness habit. Even if it is just walking to the store instead of riding in your car, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Unless of course, you live on the 35th floor of your condo building.
- Stay away from stressful situations. If you cannot, make it a point to set one day aside to sit back and relax and just chill out. Read a good book, take a bubble bath, treat yourself to a massage or go out and see a movie. Anything to wash away the stresses of an entire day.
- Use sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. Especially during the summer.
- Visit your dentist regularly.

So you have suddenly become an Adventist for gyms and workouts. Good for you! Congratulations on your way towards fitness, health and overall wellness. Those hours on the treadmill though are going to be very long and very painful hours if you do not make it a point to eat something before you do your workout. It is important that you eat the right foods before you spend the whole day at the gym. Otherwise, you will collapse and just would not be able to continue your exercises any longer. So what are the kinds of food you should consume before hitting the gym?
- Studies have shown that there are actually two best times to eat pre-training meals. The first one is about four hours before you start intense training and another is half hour to one hour before your regular exercises. At this point, consuming carbohydrate rich food – not too many mind you – is helpful. This is because carbohydrates act as your body’s fuel to get you through those exercise routines.
- Cereals, pancakes, bananas, fruit and nuts, energy bars and yogurts are the best pre-training food.
- For fitness workouts to be more effective, stay away from salty, fatty and super sweet food as this slows down the time for your body to digest all that you have eaten, therefore making you sleepy and sluggish
- Eat oranges to keep that vitamin C coming. This helps repair muscle tissue
- Potatoes are rich in Potassium as well as bananas and consuming them will replace the lost potassium in your work out exercises. Oh and they are rich in carbohydrates, too.
- Salmon is rich in omega fats that help a lot in reducing abdominal fats.
- Berries not only are rich sources of nutrients and vitamins, they also provide antioxidants that are good for your skin.
- Hummus is high in carbohydrates. And you know that it is important to consume carbohydrates for those energy work outs.
What you also have to keep in mind is that when it comes to fitness, the quality of the food you eat is as important as the quantity of the food you are eating. Food packed with vitamins and as much liquid possible is best for any gym enthusiast. This is because you have to replace the nutrients and vitamins that your body has burned up and lost during the intense workout sessions that you do.
